Dr Rebecca Byrnes is a Respiratory and Sleep Physician. She was born and raised in Bundaberg and returned to open her private practice in 2023. Dr Byrnes is committed to respiratory care in regional Queensland.
She completed her medical studies at the University of Queensland in 2005. She completed her respiratory training at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital in 2016. She has worked as a consultant respiratory physician at the Townsville University Hospital and the Pimlico campus of Mater Hospital.

Dr Rebecca has a special interest in lung cancer diagnosis and staging and has significant experience in bronchoscopy, including endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS) for the diagnosis of lung cancer.
She is also experienced in managing a wide range of respiratory conditions such as chronic cough, unexplained breathlessness, asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), interstitial lung disease, bronchiectasis and mycobacterial disease.
If you have a respiratory condition that you wish to have reviewed, the first step is to see your GP for assessment. They can then give you a referral for Dr Byrnes.
Once we have reviewed the referral we will contact you to offer an appointment time. This should be within 3 working days of us receiving your referral. If you have not heard within this timeframe, please call 07 4155 5053 to make sure the referral has been received.
